MetaMask has launched an exciting crypto payment card , in collaboration with Mastercard and Baanx (crypto life). The pioneering card allows users to spend their crypto funds directly from their MetMask web wallet.

This exciting development gives users more freedom to spend their crypto. This shift bridges the gap between blockchain technology and eCommerce in the real world.

Simon Jones, Chief Commercial Officer at Baanx, says “we are delighted to partner with web3’s leading wallet, MetaMask, to power the financial revolution by enabling users to be their own bank”.

This pilot scheme is only available to certain UK and EU customers, as of August 14th 2024.

Users should visit their MetaMask portfolio and check whether a ‘card’ tab is displayed on the left side navigation bar. If you are eligible, you will be directed to the Crypto Life where you can set up your account and card.

Removing Barriers To Crypto Spending

Traditionally, spending your crypto in the physical world has been a time consuming, long-winded process. Normally a user will have to send funds to an exchange, then send it to a bank before they are able to spend it.

This frustrating journey has meant that mass adoption of cryptocurrency has been disrupted. The aim of the MetaMask Card is to remove the barriers to crypto spending and does not require use of a bank.

Although there are other crypto payment cards available, they require the user to send funds to a third-party before they are able to spend them.

MetaMask Card allows for user empowerment and self-custody, which will accelerate the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency.

Debit Card Similarity

Users can spend their crypto funds stored in their MetaMask wallet, directly on goods and everyday purchases.

A Phased Launch Of MetaMask Card

MetaMask Card will involve a phased, gradual launch and will be rolling out to further geographical locations and regions in the near future.
